I built my first Chrome Extension for fun.

What is this?

Turn off Ads on DuckDuckGo is a Chrome Extension to hide ads on DuckDuckGo. You can also toggle them back on. Again, this does not block the ads, it only hides them, with the option to show them.

I have never made a Chrome Extension before, and I find the documentation a bit clunky to be honest. I find the MutationObserver to be somewhat unintuitive, and was expecting for it to handle incoming messages (to signal hiding/showing ads) out of the box. The publication process is also subpar. It would be nice to know BEFORE paying $5 that you have to provide a public email. Why do the banner images have to be exactly 1280x800 or 640x400?

Does this exist already? Surely. Do Brave shields on aggressive mode solve this? Yes.

That is not the point. I had time, I wanted to learn, so I built something.

The logo was made with GPT4o Image Generation.

As a side note, why does the Chrome Developer Tools website use over 300mb in storage? Really! Check chrome/brave/other://settings/content/all on Chromium-based browsers.
